- Call Outs - Call Outs are a vital part of CAPA's ministry. Responding FWPD officers always have the option of requesting a CAPA member be present on scene to assist in everything from acting as liaison between family and law enforcement to holding a hand and offering a prayer. CAPA members have a calming effect on many and that can be an invaluable asset to an officer trying to manage an active scene. Call Outs are administered through sign up sheets circulated via email on a two week rotational basis and are voluntary.
- Ride Ins - Ride Ins are where the rubber meets the road. They are the heart and soul of what CAPA does. Briefly, ride ins are just what its name implies. You ride along with a FWPD officer as they patrol their beat. Officers work ten hour shifts and CAPA members are given clearance to ride in at their discretion. These ride ins can be a full ten hour shift or any part thereof. The goal of CAPA is to have at least one CAPA member on patrol 24/7 thereby making themselves available almost immediately to take a call out. Ride ins accomplish two objectives. The first is meeting the immediate needs of victims of a stressful, often tragic, event. The second is building relationships with the officers. Because, in doing so, CAPA members offer the officer a "safe harbor" in which to dialogue about any number of things. In taking part in a ride in, it's important the CAPA member is cognizant of the fact they are not there to be "entertained" but rather to be an additional resource to that officer. It is critical to note that due to the invaluable nature of participating in ride ins all CAPA members are required to log a minimum of five hours every month. Additionally, upon graduation from CAPA training a new CAPA member is required to log five hours monthly for the first five months. In CAPA we use the acronym SPEAR to articulate our goals as we are the spear of ministry to the citizens and police officers of Fort Worth.
